Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal of India - "the epitome of love", "a monument of immeasurable beauty".The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It stands on the bank of River Yamuna, It is one of the seven wonders of the world. The Taj Mahal is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture..

It was built by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan in 1631 in memory of his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, a Muslim Persian princess. Taj mahal began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, It was designed by the Iranian architect Ustad Isa. Twenty thousand people were deployed to work on it. The materials were brought in from all over India and central Asia and it took a fleet of 1000 elephants to transport it to the site. In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. the white domed marble mausoleum is its most familiar component, the Taj Mahal is actually an integrated complex of structures .

The Taj rises on a high red sandstone base topped by a huge white marble terrace on which rests the famous dome flanked by four tapering minarets. Within the dome lies the jewel-inlaid cenotaph of the queen. The dome is made of white marble, but the tomb is set against the plain across the river and it is this background that works its magic of colours that, through their reflection, change the view of the Taj. Like a jewel, the Taj sparkles in moonlight when the semi-precious stones inlaid into the white marble on the main mausoleum catch the glow of the moon.

The colours of Taj mahal change at different hours of the day and during different seasons; pinkish in the morning, milky white in the evening and golden when the moon shines. As a tribute to a beautiful woman and as a monument for enduring love, the Taj reveals its subtleties when one visits it without being in a hurry. Taj has a life of its own that leaps out of marble, provided you understand that it is a monument of love. As an architectural masterpiece, nothing could be added or subtracted from it.

History of the Statue of Christ the Redeemer starts in the XVIth Century when the Portuguese named the mountain Pináculo da Tentação (The Pinnacle [peak] of Temptation), alluding to the Biblical Mountain. The idea for erecting a large statue atop Corcovado was first suggested in the mid 1850s, when Catholic priest Pedro Maria Boss requested financing from Princess Isabel to build a large religious monument. From several numbers of designs, the statue of Christ the Redeemer with open arms was chosen which was designed by local engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted by French sculptor Paul Landowski. The statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, chosen for its enduring qualities and ease of use. Total construction took nine years from 1922 to 1931.

The $250,000 statue was opened for all in October of 1931. The statue was struck by a heavy lightning in a storm at 1998 but it was intact because of its soapstone.

The Great Wall of Chaina

The Great Wall of China, one of the greatest wonders of the world, is drawn out from east to west of China. It is one of the largest building construction projects ever completed which stretches across the mountains of northern China, winding north and northwest of Beijing. This 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500 miles) long series of stone and earthen fortifications winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus of the country.

The Great Wall was originally built in the Spring, Autumn, and Warring States Periods as a defensive fortification by the three states: Yan, Zhao and Qin. The Great Wall went through constant extensions and repairs in later dynasties. Emperor Qin Shihuang succeeded in his effort to have the walls joined together to fend off the invasions from the Huns in the north after the unification of China. Since then, the Great Wall has served as a monument of the Chinese nation throughout history. In 2009, an additional 290 kilometres (180 miles) of previously undetected portions of the wall, built during the Ming Dynasty, were discovered. The newly discovered sections range from the Hushan mountains in the northern Liaoning province to Jiayuguan in western Gansu province. The sections had been submerged over time by sandstorms that moved across the arid region.

The Great Wall can be seen from low earth orbit, i.e. an altitude of as little as 100 miles (160 km) but, contrary to legend, is not visible from the moon, according to astronauts Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, and Jim Irwin. Leroy Chiao, a Chinese-American astronaut, took a photograph from the International Space Station that shows the wall. It was so indistinct that the photographer was not certain he had actually captured it. Based on the photograph, the China Daily later reported that the Great Wall can be seen from space with the naked eye, under favorable viewing conditions, if one knows exactly where to look.

Leaning tower

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the world's most spectacular tourist attractions, which is situated in fascinating Italian city of Pisa. The Tower of Pisa is the campanile, or freestanding bell tower of the cathedral. It is one of the most outstanding campaniles or bell towers in Europe. The Tower of Pisa is located just behind the beautiful Romanesque style Pisa Cathedral.

The tower of Pisa has an unusual look that comes from its inclined condition. Construction of this tower began on August 09, 1173 AD and the infamous tilt was soon discovered in 1178 AD, however, its architects decided to continue with the project regardless. Some historians believe that the inclination of the Tower of Pisa was part of the original architect's design, but now it's confirmed that it was not so.

All the way through its creation years and over the centuries later, many attempts have been made to halt its inclination, with an aim to increase its lifespan. But most of us will agree that in its curious inclination lies its beauty, which never fails to fascinate thousands of its visitors from worldwide destinations.

The construction of the Tower of Pisa was completed in three stages, spanning over two centuries. The construction of first floor white marble campanile was started in August 1173 AD, while During the construction of third floor in 1178, the tower started leaning, possibly because of its narrow base and unstable subsoil. In 1198 AD, few clocks were temporarily installed on the unfinished construction. Its construction was halted at the beginning of the 13th century, possibly due to continuous battles between Italy and her neighbors.
The height of the tower is 55.86 m (183.27 ft) from the ground on the lowest side and 56.70 m (186.02 ft) on the highest side. The width of the walls at the base is 4.09 m (13.42 ft) and at the top 2.48 m (8.14 ft). It weighs almost 14,500 metric tons (16,000 short tons). The tower has 296 or 294 steps; the seventh floor has two fewer steps on the north-facing staircase. The tower leans at an angle of 3.97 degrees.

Cox’s Bazar is also one of the fishing ports of Bangladesh. A good number of peoples are also involved in the fishing and collecting seafoods and sea products for their livelihood. It is a good place for sea bathing also. Except the world’s longest sea beach, there are also some more attractive tourist places i.e. Aggmeda Khyang (a large Buddhist monastery), Dulhazra Safari Park, Himchari etc.
The Aggmeda Khyang, a large Buddhist monastery, and a place revered by around 400,000 Buddhist people of Cox’s Bazar and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The main sanctuary-cum-monastery is carried on a series of round timber columns, which apart from accommodating the prayer chamber and an assembly hall, also is the repository of a large of small bronze Buddha images-mostly of Burmese origin-- and some old manuscripts. Beyond the main khyang to the south there is an elevated wooden pavilion and a smaller brick temple with a timber and corrugated metal root.

Dulhazra Safari Park is an extension of an animal sanctuary located along the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar road about 50 km from Cox's Bazar town. The sanctuary itself protects a large number of wild elephants which are native to the area. Some other animal attractions like Lions, Royal Bengal tigers, Crocodiles, Bears, Chitals and lots of different types of birds and monkeys are also in this safari park.
Himchari is another place located about 18 km south of Cox’s Bazar along the sea beach, a nice place for the picnic and film shooting. It runs by the open sea on one side and hills & water falls on the other which makes the journey to Himchari very attractive.

Nepal

Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. China and India border this country from the north and the south respectively. It is called The Himalayan Kingdoms. Katmandu is the capital of Nepal. Historically, what is now Nepal was made up of many small kingdoms. The modern state was formed with the Unification of Nepal by Prithvi Narayan Shah on December 21, 1768. Until 2006, Nepal was a kingdom. Nepal is now a federal democratic republic. Nepali is the official language of Nepal, with almost 60 percent of the population speaking it.
The country is known for its majestic
Himalayas and has nine of the fourteen peaks in the world over 8,000 meters, including Mount Everest and Annapurna where Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world. Nepal commonly is divided into three broad physiographic areas: the Mountain Region, the Hill Region, and the Tarai Region and among them Mountain Region is the most beautiful one where Mount Everest exists. The Mountain Region constitutes the central portion of the Himalayan range originating in the Pamirs, a high altitude region of Central Asia. Himalayas have attracted foreigners to Nepal since Mount Everest was first climbed by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Sherpa in 1953. Mountaineering and hiking were of considerable interest as were rafting, canoeing, and hang gliding.

The hill region includes the Katmandu Valley, the country's most fertile and urbanized area. Two major ranges of hills, commonly known as the Mahabharat Lekh and Siwalik Range (or Churia Range), occupy the region. the Tarai Region is a lowland tropical and subtropical belt of flat, alluvial land stretching along the Nepal-India border, and paralleling the Hill Region.
